NYMPHENBURG PALACE in Munich was Ludwig's birthplace. Nymphenburg was begun in 1664. The grand partere of the 200 hectare / 490 acre park HOHENSCHWANGAU CASTLE, near Füssen, was Ludwig's boyhood home. Hohenschwangau Castle as seen from Neuschwanstein Entrance to Hohenschwangau NEISCHWANSTEIN was Ludwig II's first castle. Rococo architecture in the forest Southern Terraced Hill, with Venus Temple HERRENCHIEMSEE, Ludwig's third castle, is on an island in Lake Chiemsee.
